Building the Foundation for National Central Sterile Services Standards in Ghana

Health systems transformation begins with evidence, collaboration, and a shared commitment to quality.

The Alpha Health Group had the privilege of leading a multidisciplinary team from The Alpha Health Group Inc., working in partnership with the Ghana Health Service and with sponsorship from Jhpiego , to the Volta Region as part of our ongoing national baseline assessment initiative aimed at strengthening Central Sterile Services in Ghana.

Our team successfully completed assessments at:

📍 Ho Teaching Hospital
📍 Hohoe Regional Hospital
📍 Ketu South Municipal Hospital

These assessments examined sterile processing infrastructure, workflows, equipment, workforce capacity, quality management systems, and current operational practices. Beyond identifying opportunities for improvement at the facility level, the exercise is designed to generate the evidence needed to develop National Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Central Sterile Services in Ghana.

The facility-specific reports currently being developed will provide practical recommendations for participating hospitals while contributing to a broader national framework that promotes standardized practices, strengthens infection prevention and control, improves patient safety, and supports high-quality surgical care across the country.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the management and staff of the participating facilities for their openness, professionalism, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Meaningful and sustainable healthcare improvement is achieved through partnership, evidence, and a commitment to excellence. We are proud to be part of this transformational initiative. The Alpha Health Group Inc.
